Here come the gifts for the girls

Just had to take a little break from editing to share some exciting beauty news, I hope you don't mind.

A friend shared on Facebook that she treated herself to the Selfridges Advent Calendar this morning....and it looks gorgeous!

Now, I spent an hour in Boots yesterday checking out their Christmas gifts (they've installed some lovely bookshelves to show off their gorgeous seasonal goodies; smart move - I already want to buy one of everything from Soap and Glory).  And I started wondering where their Advent Calendar was.

A quick Google later and this very helpful information from Cosmopolitan magazine turned up, alerting us girls to a plethora of beauty advent calendars available over the next few weeks.  When you've chosen the one you want, hunt it down, roping in family and friends if necessary....last year I couldn't make up my mind and spent a fruitless December trying to track down 25 mini goodies to see me through the festive season.  Apparently, October is the month to treat ourselves!

Benefit....available from 16th October
Selfridges....on sale now
Ciate....on sale now
Liberty....from November
Jo Malone....from 20th October (or, at £250 you could treat yourself to a 30ml and a holiday)
The Body Shop....8th October
No 7 .... 29th October (warning, link contains detailed product info from the Really Ree blog)
Elemis....available now
L'Occitane...3rd November

(above links updated 15th October 2014)

Check the Cosmo article for full details of locations.

I have my eye on Boots' No 7, unless a Lotto win turns up, in which case I'll interupt Mumsnet's Blogfest with a little hop to Regent Street for Liberty's feel gorgeous scrummies.

Which beauty calendar will see you through to the Christmas Eve sales?

  1. How have I gone 38 years and not known about THIS type of advent calendar?!? I might need to subtly leave this page open for Hubs to stumble across....Far better than chocs or a Xmas pic!

    1. I know, and there's so many gorgeous treats to choose from! I'm torn between Benefit (gorgeous) and Boots (budget-friendly).

From Ashford to Plymouth (and Cornwall) in a fortnight

So, Easter: how did you spend yours?

I've just looked back over my recent photos and I think I know why this Pinot and Cadbury's egg is going down so well....we've packed in a fair bit over the last fourteen days.

Our adventures began in Ashford, Kent, via an overnight with friends in Chippenham - where I managed to leave my purse and my daughter's Kindle behind!  Time to pop on some sunnies and kick off your shoes:

Thankfully we were staying with friends in Ashford, so we shared our budget for the five days of fun.

First stop was Folkestone beach.

Chicago: 48 Hours in the Magnificent Midwest

I first discovered Chicago in 2013, and have been fortunate enough to return several times since, usually for 24 or 48 hours, so I highly recommended this HIIT city destination.

I also managed to fit in a 12 hour shopping trip layover when I visited Belize in April 2016.

A serial East Coast traveller (remember when everyone travelled to New York for a weekend break?) a work opportunity arose that saw me book a flight to Chicago for onward travel to a little student town called Champaign; four-hour return Amtrak trip, and well worth a visit for a true taste of America (they even have a freakin’ Dairy Queen).
Flights Flights are around 9 hours direct from the UK, and, depending how organised you are, range from £500-£800 for economy return.
Hotels For reasons I’m about to go into, I enjoy staying at Hilton O’Hare (the only airport hotel; handy for layovers) or the Hilton Rosemont (one MTR stop from O’Hare and an entertainment haven).  City-centre hotels are very competitively priced, sta…
